It has come to our attention that the anti-homosexual preacher, Pastor Steven L. Anderson of the Faithful Word Baptist Church in Arizona is planning a visit to South Africa to spread his gospel of hatred for LGBT people. In keeping with the humanist values of the South African Bill of Rights, we call upon the South African government to heed the petition on change.org created by Hendrik Baird, and deny Pastor Anderson entry into South Africa on his planned mission in September to spread hatred against LGBT people.
Pastor Steven Anderson is infamous for his hate speech, and has recently celebrated the killings of 50 people in a gay nightclub in Orlando, USA, saying “these homosexuals are a bunch of disgusting perverts and pedophiles” and “these people all should have been killed, anyway, but they should have been killed through the proper channels, as in they should have been executed by a righteous government that would have tried them, convicted them, and saw them executed.”.
These quotes are not only horrifying, but they completely contradict the values of the South African public and our Bill of Rights. There is little doubt that if Pastor Steven Anderson were to be allowed his mission, he would commit acts of hate speech, which are illegal in South Africa. We condemn the pastor and his teachings in the strongest possible terms, and ask that all South Africans stand by us in disallowing Pastor Anderson a platform in our nation.
